Powerpoint Presentation on Affordable Housing - May 2023

Join us for a virtual event on how to develop affordable housing for your community. Plus, introductions between the faith community and non-profit organizations they can partner with to develop affordable housing.

Sponsored by: Bricks and Mortals, Enterprise Community Partners, Local Initiatives Support Corporation NY, NYC Office of Faith-Based & Community Partnerships, and Partnership for Faith-Based Affordable Housing and Community Development

New York State Council of Churches has worked diligently over the years to help congregations address the affordable housing crisis in our state. In the current legislative session, so much time was been devoted to confronting a the housing crisis in New York where over 50% of New Yorkers  must spend more than 30% of their income on housing, Faith communities have an important role in standing up for good housing policies in the legislative process and advocating for zoning changes to address this crisis especially if new housing is being proposed in your town or city.

All congregations can advocate and educate in their communities. but some of these congregations are in a position to use some of their property to build affordable housing. The Council, as a founding member of the Faith Based Partnership for Affordable Housing and Community Development,  has learned a lot about how to partner with congregations to offer the best advice in the pre-development process. We want to help you make the best use of pre-development assistance to ensure you get off on the right foot and avoid common and expensive pre-development traps which cost unnecessary time and money. If you think your congregation or not-for-profit might have the potential to build affordable housing on its property and want to learn how to work with a pre-development fund and assistance provider, we look forward to your participation!
