Program Summary

Congregations are called to further their mission by doing justice and taking care of their neighbors. We help congregations find creative ways to redevelop the property for the benefit of the community while improving space for fellowship and worship. Many congregations, with professional assistance, can repurpose their property to build affordable housing, create arts and community spaces, plant community gardens, and develop schools and educational programs among other activities.

There are six phases to our process.

Phase 1

Intake call and 8 questions – contact Rashida Tyler rtyler@nyscoc.org or (845) 282-6022
Evaluation of the answers to those questions
Pro-Bono Consultation to determine readiness to prepare an application for pre-development
Board of Conveners decides whether or not to invite congregation to apply for pre-development assistance

Phase 2

Congregation submits a scope of work prepared by a project manager, attorney and architect
Board of Conveners approves scope of work and determines best path for congregation to secure money to pay for the scope of work.

Phase 3

Gathering information for an RFP or RFQ

Phase 4

Write and Issue an RFQ or RFP

Phase 5

Select an attorney who will negotiate development agreement with developer who bid on RFQ or RFP
Review bids and select developer
Write and negotiate Development Agreement

Phase 6

With Development Agreement in hand, seek funding, zoning and other approvals with developer partner
