This year’s theme, “Beloved Community,” honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision of a society based on justice, equal opportunity, and love of one’s fellow human beings.
Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom! It commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, TX, found out that they had been freed by the Emancipation Proclamation - two years prior! Freedom was delayed but not denied. Celebrating at the parade is the perfect way to get ready for July 4th!
