The New York State legislative session resumes in January and we at Beyond Plastics are gearing up in our fight to limit plastic packaging in the state of New York. Packaging amounts for 40% of all plastic production and our model legislation The Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act takes aim at this most senseless growth market for the fossil fuel and plastics industries by imposing limits on packaging and banning the most toxic chemicals therein, reducing the burden on communities living near landfills and incinerators and making food and beverage packaging safer for our families' health.
On Friday, November 21st at 1pm we are convening a zoom for faith communities and leaders to explore how we can partner together to bring increased public attention and action to advance this crucial policy. Register HERE to join us - and forward along to interested colleagues, neighbors and friends of any and all faiths!
Beyond Plastics’ National Organizing Director, Alexis Goldsmith, as well as Rev. Kathryn Beilke, Beyond Plastics' Development Manager and Alyssa Lukash Mdiv student at Union Theological Seminary will answer questions about the facets of the bill and discuss the moral imperative to act now.
New York is blessed with a vibrant religious community with powerful leaders leveraging their platform to speak out about the moral dimensions of the waste and climate crises. We need your voice in the growing chorus raising up real solutions to plastic waste. One or more members of your community are invited to join with us and share calls to action with your organization or house of worship so that together we make 2026 the year New York finally takes real and substantive action on plastic pollution. The solutions to this crisis are within our hands - we need you to help us make it happen!
